How to use Zyprexa Zydis Oral

Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start taking olanzapine and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Take exactly as directed by your doctor, usually once daily by mouth. Stand up slowly, especially when starting this medication, to avoid dizziness.

After opening sachet, peel back the foil on the blister. Do not push the tablet through the foil. Instead, remove the tablet with dry hands and place the tablet in your mouth. It will start to dissolve immediately in saliva and can be swallowed with or without liquid.

Do not open sachets for later use. Each must be opened just before taking each dose.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Directions
Follow the directions for using Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet provided by your doctor. Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet comes with an extra patient information sheet called a Medication Guide. Read it carefully. Read it again each time you get Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet refilled. Do not remove the blister from the outer pouch until you are ready to take Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. Make sure your hands are dry when you open the blister pack. After opening the pouch, peel back foil on blister. Do not push tablet through foil. Immediately remove the tablet with dry hands and place in the mouth. It will dissolve quickly in your saliva and can be swallowed with or without water. Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. DRINKING EXTRA FLUIDS while you are taking Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet is recommended. Check with your doctor or nurse for instructions. STORE ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. KEEP ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET out of the reach of children and away from pets. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET without first checking with your doctor. CONTINUE TO TAKE ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or stop using Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet without first checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be done to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are using Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol and other depressants. Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet may cause drowsiness, dizziness, decreased vision, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of these effects. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. Using Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DO NOT BECOME OVERHEATED OR DEHYDRATED in hot weather or during exercise or other activities since risk of heatstroke may be increased. If vomiting or diarrhea occurs, you will need to take care not to become dehydrated. ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET MAY LOWER THE ABILITY OF YOUR BODY TO FIGHT INFECTION. Avoid contact with people who have colds or infections. Tell your doctor if you notice signs of infection like fever, sore throat, rash, or chills. ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET MAY CAUSE A POSSIBLY FATAL CONDITION CALLED NEUROLEPTIC MALIGNANT SYNDROME (NMS). CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you develop symptoms such as fever, stiff muscles, confusion, abnormal thinking, fast or irregular heartbeat, and unusual sweating. SOME PATIENTS WHO TAKE ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET MAY DEVELOP MUSCLE MOVEMENTS THAT THEY CANNOT CONTROL. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE MUSCLE PROBLEMS with your arms; legs; or your tongue, face, mouth, or jaw while taking Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Phenylketonurics: Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet contains phenylalanine. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET IN THE ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to the effects of Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET IN CHILDREN; they may be more sensitive to its effects. Children may need regular weight checks while they take Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. Using Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet during the third trimester may result in uncontrolled muscle movements or withdrawal symptoms in the newborn. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. ZYPREXA ZYDIS ORALLY DISINTEGRATING TABLET IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Zyprexa Zydis Orally Disintegrating Tablet. Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur during treatment, include back or joint pain, constipation, cough, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, indigestion, lightheadedness, numbness or tingling of the skin, restlessness, sore throat, weakness, or weight gain. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience decreased urination or unusual bruising. TELL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if these symptoms occur. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience abnormal thoughts; chest pain; confusion; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; increased saliva production or drooling; memory loss; menstrual changes; muscle pain, weakness, or stiffness; new or worsening mental or mood changes (such as depression, hallucinations); one-sided weakness; seizures; severe or prolonged dizziness or headache; swelling of the hands, legs, or feet; shortness of breath; suicidal thoughts or actions; symptoms of high prolactin levels (eg, enlarged breast size, decreased sexual ability, missed menstrual period, nipple discharge); tremor; trouble concentrating, speaking, or swallowing; trouble sitting still; trouble walking or standing; uncontrolled muscle movements (eg, arm or leg movements, twitching of the face or tongue, jerking or twisting); unusual sweating; vision changes; or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
